INEC Explains Why Sultan, Fashola Were Unable To Get PVCs

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that the careless attitude of some of its staff was the reason why the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, and Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, (SAN), were not able to collect their permanent voters cards.

According to the Daily Times, the deputy director in charge of voters education and publicity, Nick Dazang, revealed this on Monday, February 1, at a one-day workshop for newsmen in Kaduna.
The explanation given by the INEC deputy director revealed that some INEC staff were careless in handling the bio-metrics of some applicants.

According to him, “the initial lost of data led to loss of finger prints and that was why the Sultan of Sokoto, Governor Fashola of Lagos and others could not get their PVCs. Attitude of some INEC staff led to loss of the data”.

However, he declared that despite the challenges being faced by the INEC, the commission has achieved 65 percent distribution of PVCs nationwide and expressed optimism that the percentage of PVCs distributed would increase substantially before the elections.

With less than two weeks to the general elections, many Nigerians claim they are yet to be given their Permanent Voters’ Cards
Many have criticised how the distribution of the cards has been handled, with some saying it is a ploy to disenfranchise voters, while some officials of the INEC have been accused of using the card distribution as an avenue to extort money from potentiavoters.

hough the INEC has said that the cards are being given out to those who have registered, many are yet to get their card.
